Meet Ge’Nell

Ge’Nell Gary was born and raised in the heart of Texas, where she grew up instilled with the values of hard work, community, and integrity. From her early days in Fort Bend/Wharton County, Ge’Nell learned the importance of standing up for what is right and giving back to the neighbors and friends who make Texas so special.

Ge'Nell Gary’s faith in the Most High God has been deeply rooted since her youth. She has profoundly shaped her role as the Lead Choir Director in her church. Her lifelong passion for music and choir ministry sparked at a young age, reflects a steadfast commitment to glorifying God through song and prayer. As a director, she inspires her choir and congregation, fostering spiritual growth through her faith-driven musical leadership.

With deep roots in the Lone Star State, she understands the unique challenges and opportunities facing our communities, from rural towns to bustling cities, and is committed to ensuring every Texan has a voice in Washington for Austin. Ge’Nell’s experiences and qualifications include, but are not limited to:

December 2018, an appointment to Albany/Alameda County Library Board where she began serving on the City of Albany/Alameda County Library Board one month after moving to Albany in November 2018. She later served as Vice Chair of this board.

Then, in 2020 she was appointed to the City of Albany Social and Economic Justice Commission, where she served as Vice Chair. She continued to serve in this role as noted in later endorsements such as, in November 3, 2020, elected to Albany City Council with her term officially beginning in December 2020 and set to run through December 2024.

From December 2020 – November 2022, she served as Albany City Council Member, focusing on issues such as, housing, senior care, and community safety. Her professional background in risk management and public-entity litigation informed her contributions and led to other appointments:

• Alameda County Mayors’ Conference (Appointee) Representing Albany in the Alameda County Mayors’ Conference.
• Association of Bay Area Governments: General Assembly (Alternate).
• 2X2X2 AUSD-City-UC Village Committee (Appointee) facilitating collaboration between Albany Unified School District, the City of Albany, and UC Village.
• Community Task Force on Policing (Appointee) addressing community safety and police-related issues.
• Police & Fire Pension Fund Board (Appointee) contributing to decisions regarding pension management.

Prior appointments before 2020:

• Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women Serving on this commission, focusing on issues related to women’s rights and equality in Alameda County.

After leaving California and returning back to Texas Ge’Nell picked up right where she left off. Beginning on March 1, 2023, she was appointed to the following:

• Resource Management Commission (City of Austin, TX) focusing on resource management policies.

• April 20, 2023, Joint Sustainability Committee (City of Austin, TX) working on sustainability initiatives.

Ge’Nell has spent time bringing people together to solve tough problems, she’s ready to take that same tenacity and Texas spirit to Congress. Ge’Nell Gary is running to represent District 37 because she believes in a stronger, vibrant future for our state—one where every family can thrive, and no one is left behind.
